Unified Payment Interface has transformed the way we manage money transfers and payments. It’s a mobile system where you can link multiple bank accounts in one app and don’t need the other person’s account details to make payments. All you need is a UPI ID, which acts like your digital payment handle, and you're ready to go. It is fast, secure, and works in real-time, whether you are paying a friend or a business. And then when you decide you want to delete or change your UPI ID, do not fret, as it is not rocket science. Let us understand how you delete or deactivate your UPI ID on different platforms if needed.

What Happens When You Deactivate UPI ID?

When you deactivate your UPI ID, you lose access to your virtual payment address, which means you can no longer send or receive payments through UPI apps or QR codes. Additionally, any ongoing transactions linked to it will stop immediately. Recipients expecting payments will be notified of the change for transparency.

You can still use other payment options like the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS), mobile wallets, debit/credit cards, and traditional Internet Banking methods like NEFT, RTGS, and IMPS for money transfers.

The safety of your financial identity can be ensured by removing unused or compromised UPI IDs.
