  • December 31 = 365 (or 366 during a leap year)

3. STAN (SSSSSSSS) - 8 Digits

The final eight digits represent the System Trace Audit Number, commonly known as STAN.

This number is generated by the initiating bank and acts as a unique identifier for that specific transaction within the bank's internal systems.

It ensures that even if millions of transactions occur on the same day, each one can still be identified separately.

Example of an RRN

Suppose a UPI payment is made on February 6, 2026.

The year digit would be:

6 (for 2026)

February 6 is the 37th day of the year.

The Julian day would be:

037

So the RRN would begin with:

6037

The remaining eight digits would be the unique STAN generated by the bank.

A complete RRN might look something like:
